6) Create your own goals. Determine where you want to be professionally and what skills you need to reach that goal.

7) Be comfortable with being uncomfortable. Accept challenges that force you to try something new.

8) Be clear about what you want. If you believe you deserve a promotion, ask for one,

9) Take time off and relax. Attending to your personal life and doing things that make you happy will help your performance at work.

10) Seek satisfaction. If you are disappointed by your current career, look for ways to transform your job into more of you want. If this does not solve the problem, maybe it's time to look for a new position.

If you follow this advice, you will significantly increase your opportunities to earn more money, get promoted sooner and move ahead faster.

VIDEO: A female polyglot explains how to learn languages

For some people, just learning one language it is a hard and a complicated step which takes a long time to be taken, but some have the incredible ability to learn languages effortlessly. Nevertheless, we do have to consider that each individual's brain works in a slightly different way and everyone has their own time to master a linguistic skill (then, take yours!), of course, considering how much you are immersed in the language, how much you are passionate about it and how often you are exposed to it.

Susanna Zaraysky was interviewed in San Francisco by the Channel CBS 5 Bay about the book "Language is Music" when she talks about her book "Language is Music", how to learn languages, comparing that process (and using it) to listening to music and media and other easy activities at home. Para algumas pessoas, apenas aprender uma língua é um passo difícil e complicado que leva um longo tempo para ser tomado, mas alguns têm a incrível capacidade de aprender línguas sem esforço. Nowadays, knowing a second language is no longer an advantage, now it is a necessity for gaining access into many professions. It also helps to know other cultures and meet new people. Language Acquisition in Babies

Patricia Kuhl is co-director of the Institute for Brain and Learning Sciences at the University of Washington. She's internationally recognized for her research on early language and brain development, and studies that show how young children learn. Kuhl’s work has played a major role in demonstrating how early exposure to language alters the brain. It has implications for critical periods in development, for bilingual education and reading readiness, for developmental disabilities involving language, and for research on computer understanding of speech.

In the following video, Patricia Kuhl shares astonishing findings about how babies learn one language over another -- by listening to the humans around them and "taking statistics" on the sounds they need to know. Clever lab experiments (and brain scans) show how 6-month-old babies use sophisticated reasoning to understand their world. Patricia Kuhl studies how we learn language as babies, looking at the ways our brains form around language acquisition.
