Past Tense - English Pronunciation 

For some English students, it is really hard to pronounce correctly the past tense for having three different sounds - [t], [d] or [Id] -. As we always need to improve our language skills, there is a video which I think it will be very helpful for you guys! Click on the image and enjoy it!

4 ways to understand what you hear

Each individual's brain works in a slightly different way and we need to get that! Everyone has their own time to achieve fluency, then don't be so hard on yourself. 

When we start learning a new language, usually we start by making connection between our native language and the new one until we are able to "separate" them in our brain. But it takes a while, specially when we work on our listening skills. 

English Teacher James shares very interesting tips to understand what you hear in a foreign language. One of these hints has caught my attention: DON'T THINK, JUST LISTEN! We seldom remember that at some point in our lives, we need to stop translating everything into our mother tongue and plug away with a new context of language which is full of other vocabulary, sounds, expressions and etc.

O cérebro de cada um funciona de uma maneira um pouco diferente e precisamos entender isso! Todos têm o seu próprio tempo para tornar-se fluente, então não seja tão duro consigo mesmo.

Quando começamos a aprender uma nova língua, geralmente começamos fazendo conexão entre a nossa língua nativa e o nova até que sejamos capazes de "separá-las" em nosso cérebro. Mas, isso leva um tempo, especialmente quando trabalhamos com nossas habilidades de escuta.

O professor de Inglês James compartilha dicas muito interessantes para entender o que você ouve numa língua estrangeira. Uma dessas dicas me chamou a atenção: NÃO PENSE, SÓ ESCUTE! Lembramo-nos raramente de que em algum momento de nossas vidas, precisamos parar de traduzir tudo em nossa língua materna e "plugar-nos" com um novo contexto de linguagem que está cheio de outros vocabulários, sons, expressões e etc.

I have just found one of its  channels called EnglishLessons4U which provides many videos that exploit a lot of English grammar topics and share nice tips for better results along the way of learning. "AMERICAN FOOD": Fulbright Cultural Event

The project "Making the teaching of English more dynamic at UESC" promotes an interesting and fun event about FOOD!!!!  Have you ever wondered what Americans eat? Are you curious about some of the local traditions and food of the United States? Come and hear Loni and Sarah share about some of their favorite recipes and foods as well as taste some traditional dishes such as macaroni and cheese, pancakes and maple syrup and apple crisp. Idea Factory: UESC English Language Teaching Convention

Next week at the State University of Santa Cruz, hereafter now on UESC, the Letras & Artes Department is hosting an event called Idea Factory: UESC English Language Teaching Convention 2013, on August 21st , where the English language is used all the time, which makes the event an experience of linguistic immersion.

The main objectives of the event are:

• To approach the teachers and students of PARFOR-English, Letras, LEA and PIBID-English, professionals and institutions which are dealing with the teaching of this language in the region covered by the UESC;
• To promote the release of relevant works of regional, national and/or international authors in the field of teaching and learning of English;
• To offer participants the opportunity to immerse in an entire day devoted to English, exchange experiences in the field of teaching and learning of English;
• To provide opportunity for the dissemination of projects, actions and language courses, in regard to the English language.
